Understanding underglazes—Join us in the studio to better understand how underglazes can be applied, layered, and carved. We will begin by using underglazes to paint blocks of color (geometric or simple scenes/images–examples will be provided for inspiration). Once dry, students will use carving tools to outline and add details to their work–an intro to basic sgraffito. Pieces will be bisque-fired, and the studio will add a zinc-free clear coat glaze before the final firing.

Students should bring a leather hard cylinder (mug, cup, or vase) to work on. Please let us know if you do not have one, and we will provide one. Requests must be made a minimum of 2 days in advance to [email protected]
