Sgraffito Techniques in Enamel
Sgraffito (skrah-fee-toh) is an Italian word that relates to the technique of scratching through the top surface to see the surface below. This technique provides a great way to create patterns and unique effects on an enameled surface. Students will learn how to prepare the copper surface, sift vitreous enamel, work with contrasting colors, kiln or torch-fire, and create unique designs by scratching through the surface of the enamel revealing the layer below. Class project will include a pendant or bracelet.
A KN95 mask is required for sifting powders, please bring one with you.
